📝 Weekly Oni Memo #49

Sasaki Ganryu — A swordsman also known by the name Sasaki Kojiro. For those of you who fought Ganryu in the demo we released last week, were you able to win? I’m sure many of you found it a tough fight. In this post, I’d like to talk a little about Ganryu’s character and fighting style.

Ganryu’s appeal lies in the way his personality shines through his movements. His attacks combine languid, swaying footwork with feints that seem almost mocking. His unique sense of distance and idiosyncrasies make him a very troublesome opponent when faced for the first time. However, if you observe his movements carefully, there comes a moment when you begin to recognise his rhythm. First, do not rush your attacks; instead, parry his strikes while assessing him. Then, once you have grasped his quirks, launch a relentless assault — that is the key to defeating Ganryu.

Ganryu stands as a rival who repeatedly blocks Musashi’s path. Please pay close attention not only to his fighting style, but also to the way of life he has chosen.
