Roots lighter than rest of hair, how to get rest to lighten safely?

I dyed my hair a cherry cola red and had dark brown dye underneath. I color removed beforehand but it didn’t remove a lot, given the dye was put in feb. went with red and my roots came out lighter as they are naturally lighter than the dye was. how should I lighten the rest of the hair so that the red isnt just black basically?
