Ebike with possible Hall sensor issue - advice needed (newbie)
Sixthreezero Reach Your Destination 500W ebike - Error 33, motor cranks then cuts out (no load too) - Hall sensor suspected, asking before I order parts! Purchased in late 2023, 1700 miles on the speedometer.
Symptoms, in order of how this developed:
- For a while before this got bad, the motor would occasionally fail to re-engage after coasting downhill. I'd have to slow down slightly and hit the throttle again before it would kick back in.
- This progressed to the current state: when I try to engage the motor (throttle or PAS), it makes a sound like a car struggling to start, then cuts out completely with error code 33 on the display.
- Situation started on an uphill climb
Troubleshooting done so far:
- Hard reset (power off, disconnect battery 5-10 min, reseat all connectors, power back on): no change
- Double checked motor and controller connections, all good
- Lifted the wheel off the ground, spins freely by hand: no binding, grinding, or mechanical resistance
- Tested throttle with the wheel off the ground (zero load): still does the same cranking-then-cutout-then-error-33, identical to under load
Theory: Based on the progression (intermittent downhill re-engagement issue → now total failure with the same load-independent symptom), this looks like a degrading Hall sensor in the hub motor that's now failed completely. But I literally have no idea. I'm just going off of research through online forums.
