I want to quit my nail apprenticeship.

Hi. I am 20 non-binary in Michigan. I’ve been at this “6-month apprenticeship” for almost 2 years. I have all of my salon hours and I am yet to see my eligibility notice, but I should see it soon.

I have been working under a licensed cosmetologist for this apprenticeship, and I have learned a lot, but I am not finding anymore benefits wasting my time for not much money; I keep my tips. I’d rather be working in my retail job and meeting my financial goals, getting a car and going on trips with friends, than struggle to even make rent; phone bills and my half of the car insurance to my mom.

The advice I’m looking for is how to approach my mentor and manager about leaving. I don’t want them to feel like I am abandoning them, but I’m very sure about leaving so I can work for a fixed wage.
