Hamster won’t stop biting cage

my hamster recently has started biting his cage‘s opening door if that makes sense, like the holes for air too, every once in a while and the strange thing is that it is only at night and only when he hears us or sees us, so we open it and give him attention and he immediately climbed onto our hand and crawls up, when he doesn’t see or hear us he’s chillin. we recently used a cloth to cover those holes and he has stopped biting it, is there an underlying reason to this or is he just throwing a fit and being the baby he is lol

plus, his cage is meeting the size he needs and everything so that’s what lwk kinda made me question his behavior
