scammer using fake steam workshop vote
the scam (ill try to make as short as possible)
- scammer will try impersonate of your friend, or "old friend you forgot" or just random "i saw you somewhere"
- tell you he is a creator, youtuber, any kind of community creator
- he will ask you if you can vote for his item and send you link
- this is bad part, the link is fake steam (all button and link are find) except the login, if you tried login, it will tell you failed and say something along "try later". at this point your steam account is in there hand (best change password).
- after a while (2 weeks, steam massage disappear) the same user now change name to steam support, enter you account, block your friend, change your profile pic and send you "your account been suspended for weird activity" (or something along the side).
- he will try to get money out of you as proof you own the account (BIG RED FLAG)
- i will not bored you how to fix: change your password, you still have you email, and steam guard (if you don't now its the time), worst case scenario, steam support
remember:
- steam never ask money
- steam never deal with out side website (like trading site)
- steam doesn't sand via massages like users
- steam rather do thing through email
other flags and thing:
- the scammer use method to bypass login code, meaning when he do get into your account (and just before he start conversion with you as "steam support") you will get code from weird number, his already inside, but don't panic, reset password and auto logout of any account, that what saved me.
how i got scam
same method is i told before what made me raise the red flags
- need money for proof
- use data from 3d party website
- the weird login code
- still being in the account and being able to unblock my friend
do note if you had money in your account (spare change in steam wallet) you probably lost it when he entered your account.
keep safe everyone
