Hybrid Live / Electronic Drums Set up

Question

I’m building out a live electronic show and trying to figure out the most clever, streamlined live drum setup..

The show is Ableton-based: programmed drums/backing tracks are the backbone and will stay central to the mix. Not trying to have the live drummer replace the programmed kick/snare/drum production .. the live drummer is more of an additive energy layer: cymbals, fills, ghost notes, live movement, visual excitement, and maybe some electronic pad moments. Think something in the world this live set up, where the computer/track is still the core but the drums make it feel alive.

The main goals is wanting this to be compact, fast to set up, and not overly dependent on the FOH engineer building a perfect drum mix from scratch. I also may use different drummers in different cities, so I don’t want a setup that requires a drummer to learn a complicated custom rig. Ideally they can mostly just play the songs, while I provide a simple, repeatable drum-capture/mix solution.

I’ve been considering something like a Yamaha EAD10 as a stereo “live drum energy” layer, maybe with optional SPD/electronic pads later, but would love some more expertise ideas.. The Ableton programmed kick/snare will remain dominant, so the live kit does not need to carry the whole drum sound.

SO the question more or less: What would be the smartest drum setup for this kind of live electronic show? Minimal mics? EAD10? Small submixer? SPD/pads? Some hybrid approach I’m not thinking of? I know there likely isn't a perfect catch all fit, but any input here is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
