Things last.fm doesn't capture
We all love last fm, or we wouldn't be on this sub. This isn't meant to be a big complaining post, just a discussion
Last fm does a lot of things well, but the nature of how it records stuff misses out on a few things
My big one: Since everything is based on plays and not time listened, your library doesn't accurately reflect how much you love bands with long tracks.
For instance, one of my favorite bands is Between the Buried and Me. Most of their best songs are 15+ minutes long. Just looking at my own library, my top 6 songs by them are 15, 12, 18, 11, 13, and 10 minutes respectively. I have over 100 plays of each song, and plenty from the rest of their discography
Based on time spent with bands, they're surely my #1. But it doesn't reflect that way on my charts, since 15 minutes listening to them will get me 1 scrobble, while I might get 5 from another band over that same 15 minutes
If you listen to much progressive music at all, you've probably noticed this same thing. It just doesn't translate to your library with the weight you feel it should.
What's your "pet peeve" with how last fm records certain things? What is it missing for your taste?
