Lisdexamfetamine + Late diagnosed AuDHD. Does it change who you are?
This might sound like a silly question, but I am 46 and was just this week formally diagnosed with AuDHD. The autism was diagnosed 10 years ago, but I've leveled up. Anyway, I am about to start titration on Lisdexamfetamine (I think) and, while I am incredibly relieved to finally have some structural support on the horizon, I am feeling quite apprehensive about how it might affect my personality.
I am going to be taking the medication primarily to address severe executive dysfunction and task paralysis. I am completely burnt out from spending decades relying on sheer panic and adrenaline just to initiate low dopamine tasks. I am also really hoping the medication will stop my brain from "dopamine foraging", as I frequently find myself getting stuck ruminating on unresolved interpersonal puzzles or high conflict situations just to generate some mental stimulation.
However, I am worried about losing the parts of my AuDHD brain that I actually value or that make me "me". Like will the medication dull my creative spark or my ability to hyperfocus? I don't want to lose the passion and drive that makes my interests so rewarding or make my autism easier to mask/manage.
I would be really grateful to hear your perspectives.
