Workplace progressives if I don’t use a computer much?

Has anyone liked the “workplace” or “computer” progressives if you don’t work at a computer?

Background: I’ve used traditional progressives for ages and done just fine for the most part. I’ve had really bad eyes, so I didn’t see crystal clear, but I can’t much recall that I ever did.

Now: I’ve had cataract surgery, and I’m seeing distances so clearly, it’s amazing! But since I’m older I obviously can’t see clearly up close. (I opted to optimize both lenses to distance.) I work in surgery. My hands on work is up to arm’s reach, my work field extends a few feet, and I do need to see things beyond that in the OR room.

You can’t get your glasses for a few weeks and I managed with readers but not optimally. When I went to the optometrist, they recommended workplace progressives. It’s been a couple weeks, and it’s getting better, but I still can’t sharply see monitors, count boards, and other things farther away even through the top part which is supposed to be uncorrected/distance. I’d say my work field is doing pretty well. When I do have to do something on the computer it’s ok.

But, I only work part time. I’m not liking not seeing well when walking - the ground isn’t clear. I have to take them off for uneven walking like hiking. Of course I have to take them off for driving. I was taking them off a lot, but it’s getting a little better as I make myself wear them more. Taking them on and off isn’t like little readers you can slip in a pocket - these are full size glasses.

I can try them two more weeks and still exchange the lenses out for “regular” progressives. Has anyone got used to them where you use them for everything but driving? Not sure I even want to wait it out.
