Some of my favorites Part 1

Here are some good ones I haven't seen recommended enough. Yes, I've read Wolfbird, CYWC and frequently, secretly etc. but here are some (I think) lesser known ones I like. I try to read non-reheats (just following along with the story) and enjoy character studies, magical realism, off the wall AUs and well-written smut.

a simple case of mistaken identity by LiarsandThieves22 - A very funny and well-written fluff where Hayden goes a bit too far to try to figure out who Boston Lily is. He detectives his way to deciding she's the Raiders' social media manager.

Private Meetings / Open Doors by hermacology - Shane's a barista and uni student/hockey player and Ilya is a mysterious cafe patron. To explain why this is great would mean giving away some spoilers, but there is some solid character work here. Part 2 is a WIP but close to wrapping up.

Sweet, Fillty Boy by DeletiaClementine - Married Hollanov trade their favorite porn vids, Ilya's is sweet freckle boy and Shane's is a gang bang lol

another day, another struggle by blushgush - Ilya's a dealer on the corner and Shane's a junkie prostitute. It sounds dire, but it's written by someone who has real life experience and it's honest, plot-driven, character-honest and sexy. WIP but last chapter due in a week.

Permanent Reminder by shanehollandertwentyfour - Shane's Shane and Ilya is a tattoo artist in Ottawa, by the author of my hopes are prone to elevate. It's a cool dynamic where they are attracted to each other, Shane's famous and closeted, Ilya's out and a normal person and understanding of the situation, but also so sweet and surprising. I go back to this one a lot.

Primer by OctoberObrien - Weird little fluffy meta-fic about all the universes that Shane and Ilya fall in love in, despite the odds. If I was going to tell someone they should start reading HR FF I'd maybe tell them to start here.

never believe it's not so (it's magic) by paytonrambles - Shane turns into a cat. Love the casual magic and cozy vibes.

Ain't No Hollaback Girl by OrYouCouldHaveMine - They are them (hockey players) they connect of Grindr and get suspicious when they keep showing up in the same places. I don't love social media fics but this one hit me with surprising depth, solid romance and great writing.

The Lake by makeapointofhavingfun - Shane and Ilya go on a canoe trip. This one is so under-read and under-appreciated, so funny and smart, also short and sweet. If you're a camper you will love it, if not you probably will too.

Glitter Bomb by rottenraebirch - "Fuck me up, Rozanov." Super sexy take on a missing scene from the show - what happens in Tampa between fade out and fade back in.

I'll build a house inside of you by jtimu - This one has gotten decent attention but I feel like it deserves way more because it's so goddamn gorgeous. In 2014, a video of Shane and Ilya gets leaked and the worst possible outcomes come about, so even though they still don't know what they are to each other, good boy Hollander figures out a way to help fuck-up Rozanov. It's so languid and melancholy and aching and slow, and vibe-heavy, I just look at the title and I Feel Things.
