Am i being delusional or does he like me

I’m male and the other guy is male. I travel to and from school with him every day. In the mornings we don’t really talk much because we’re both tired, but after school things change a lot.

On the bus home, I usually sit downstairs with a friend, but when she gets off, I go upstairs and sit near him (across the aisle from each other, a few seats from the back). I’ve noticed he sometimes looks over at me and smiles or smirks when I catch him looking. My friend has also seen him act like this at school once — we walked past him and when I looked back, he gave a cheeky grin.

We also walk together after school sometimes. During that time he talks a lot to me about random things (like shoes), asks for my opinion, and keeps the conversation going. He seems comfortable around me and more patient/soft compared to how I see him act with others.

He’s also become a bit more physically comfortable: standing very close in shops, our heads touching when looking at my phone, and small things like booping my nose or jokingly brushing my face. It feels like flirting, but subtle enough that I’m not sure if I’m reading too much into it.

The complication is that he has a girlfriend, and he’s also moving away in a few months so our routine will change.

I really like him and I’m worried I’m either:

  • misreading friendly behaviour as flirting
  • or getting emotionally attached to something that isn’t mutual / isn’t going anywhere

Does this sound like interest or just friendliness? And how should I handle this without overthinking it or getting hurt?
