Transition to 100% breastfeeding after tongue tie release?

Newborn Troubleshooting

Hi all,

My baby is 5 weeks old. She had a shallow latch and poor milk transfer due to a tongue tie, which we had released at 2 weeks old. Her latch improved after that, but she’s still (for the most part) not taking full feeds from the breast and eats anything from 0 to 80-90ml from a bottle of pumped milk afterwards.

Currently I’m offering both breasts at each feed, and then a bottle of pumped milk while I pump to maintain supply. My hope is to get her fully onto the breast so I can ditch the pump. But I of course also want her to be fed and happy, and for my supply not to dry up.

Any success stories out there? Did you do anything specific to make it happen? Reduce the size of the top up offered? Try a day without offering top ups at all? Or do I just remain patient and hope for the best?

I should say we have been in touch with several lactation consultants but haven’t found any of them particularly useful.

Thanks in advance!
