Age of Fire discussion
Anyone else read the age of Fire series. I just finished books four and five and making my way through the final book.
I have to say this series depiction of dragons is by far the best I've ever read or saw. I've read other xenofictions like wings of Fire which I did enjoy (only up to book 10) but the series does dragons and a dragon perspective way better. At no point in the books does it feel like I'm reading from a human's perspective. The author puts a good amount of thought into how dragons would behave and how their anatomy would work which I greatly appreciate and makes the reading so much more fun. It is a shame that they're not as popular as they ought to be.
What are your thoughts about the second half of the series? I hear some people don't enjoy books four through six as much. I get that they are different than the first three but I actually do enjoy the change in pace between them. The first three was an introduction to the siblings and their struggles while the last three was using those established characters to explain more events and conflicts in the world. As I mentioned, I'm currently working through book 6 but I did enjoy the previous two a good amount.
They are definitely not without their faults putting aside the obvious editorial issues. The books himself could have easily been doubled in length to further describe certain events or build up to some payoffs. For one thing that kind of left me disappointed (unless it's resolved in book 6 I haven't got there yet) is the siblings never really confront each other about what happened to them in the past. Yes there is a moment when they accuse the copper in front of the whole assembly of dragons that he killed their parents but that is honestly only a brief exchange. It's a good start but it would've done miles better to re bring it up when they were able to come together again in the end without the copper having to answer to the audience. Instead that time he could have pleaded his case in a more sorrowful way, the fact that he really never intended for any of his siblings or parents to be killed, that he was simply beaten and lied to by the dwarves and that he was a cast aside starving hatchling who didn't know any better. But that conversation never really seems to come up and we only get a slight resolve through internal thoughts from each character.
Anyway, was everyone else's thoughts on the series. It's unfortunate that it faded out like it did because it really was a unique series. I know EE knight also wrote the dragoneer series but I'm not entirely sure I'm interested in that even though it takes place in the same world. I don't really have an interest in Reading from a perspective of a 14-year-old girl. It seems like a lot of the magic that made age of Fire special would be removed in that series because we would not get to view the dragon's society and nuances with its focus mainly being between a rider and a dragon.
