Any Deathslinger tips?

So I’ve been playing for a while, but I took a break and returned recently—and I’ve been struggling.

Deathslinger is my favorite, but I’m having issues consistently hitting shots because of the travel time of the harpoon. I get one tip is that you don’t always need to fire, and just aiming can cause a survivor to slow down enough, but the main issue is that anyone paying attention at mid-distance feels almost impossible to hit. Even when I slightly predict their movement, there’s usually enough time for them to dodge completely. It gets to the point where I actually hit long ranged shots more, but it feels like that’s because a survivor doesn’t expect it to reach so they don’t try to dodge. Idk if I’m missing something, but I really want to learn him again.
