Spirit Box Not Working

Anyone know what's going on with the spirit box? Every time me or my friend tries to use it, it doesn't signify that it's picking up our voice (but we can still hear each other in game). This only started happening after the character customization update... is there any way to fix it? or I have to wait for the developers to update?
