Best brewery spots near Boston / Massachusetts for a weekend trip?

I live in the Boston area and I’m trying to plan a couple easy weekend brewery trips within Massachusetts (and maybe just over the border into nearby New England states).

I’m mainly looking for areas where you can:

• hit a few breweries without long drives between them
• do a relaxed day or weekend trip
• find a mix of smaller/local spots rather than just the big well-known ones

Are there any areas in MA you’d recommend for brewery hopping that are fairly easy to get to from Boston?
