PvP Mentor System

Has WoW ever had a PvP mentor system? I talk with a lot of new PvPers and they constantly talk about the barrier to get into PvP. Beyond gearing I see them mention not understanding map tactics, group play, etc. It seems like it can get pretty frustrating and leads to people just giving up on it. So what about a mentor system that people can queue into or they are apart of until they hit certain thresholds? You could pit certain rating or other requirements to be a mentor and provide an easier pathway for new players.
