Indian Laurel vs Podocarpus

I am looking for a large privacy tree and have narrowed it down to a 17' Podocarpus and a 17' Indian Laurel. I have heard of problems with the Indian Laurel's roots, but the nursery says they have grown them to not be invasive and that with proper watering (hose or drip, not surface) the roots can be tamed/contained to not be problematic. Which tree do you think is a better option? I am in southern California.
