My (22f) girlfriend (20f) is applying to graduate school and doesn't want to reach out to any professors. I think she needs to do this because bosses/peers are not nearly as helpful as academic professors.
For context, the application is due asap. She said it's too last minute to ask professors, they won't respond to emails, she doesn't want to look like a bad student since it's so close to the deadline. The application was started at the beginning of June.
In my opinion, it doesn't matter. If you have one chance at doing something, you need to do everything in your power to get it done, even if it means shamelessly asking for letters close to a deadline. Bosses are fine, but not having any academic recommendations seems very detrimental.
I found it upsetting that she wasn't willing to send even a 2 minute email, just to check. It takes two minutes, why wouldn't you just do it if it would increase your chances? I just feel like she is not doing enough for herself.
Is this her thing and I should just stay out of it? I found it frustrating that she wasn't willing to send an email, all be it a bit shameless, to at least see if any professors were able to. I feel like she isn't fighting for herself the same way she would for others.
TLDR I feel like my girlfriend isn't doing enough for herself and I found it upsetting.
