Hybrid vs. Gas on 2026 EX: Terrible test drive experience & highway passing concerns
Hey everyone,
We are currently cross-shopping the 2026 Kia Carnival EX in both the Gas V6 and the Hybrid, but our test drive today left us feeling incredibly hesitant about the Hybrid. I have two very specific questions for actual owners:
1. The 12V Battery Drain — Just lot neglect, or daily nightmare?
During our test drive today, the Hybrid had a completely dead 12V battery. It required a jumpstart just to leave the lot. I accidentally shut it off at a gas station, and it died instantly again. By the time we got back to the dealership 10 minutes later and turned it off, it was dead again.
For those who own the '25 or '26 Hybrid, how common is this? Does it happen if the car sits in your driveway for a week or when you go on vacation? I really don't want a vehicle I have to worry about or jumpstart constantly.
2. Highway Passing Power — Is it actually enough?
On paper, the Hybrid loses 45 horsepower compared to the V6 (242 hp vs 287 hp). For those who drive the hybrid loaded up with family and cargo on the interstate: have you ever encountered a situation where you stomped on the gas to pass a semi-truck at 70+ mph and felt like the powertrain completely lacked the muscle to do it?
We know the Gas V6 shouldn't have these issues, but we really want the city MPG if the Hybrid isn't going to leave us stranded or feeling sluggish on road trips.
Would love some honest feedback before we sign any papers!
