What causes the change of from being attracted to looks to being attracted to personality/well spoken?

Between 18-25 I used to think that people saying “personality is attractive” was just a bunch of bs. I ALWAYS have valued looks over personality.
But at 26 I’ve started to realise that personality and how well spoken someone is seems to matter more than looks (looks still do matter significant but not as much as before).
I went to a date with a really average guy but he spoke so well, I genuinely wanted to top that man like there is no
tomorrow. I’m so curious to wonder why this shift happened because I swear I was convinced that looks were the end all, but apparently not
