Moved on but still not ready to let go of memories?

My boyfriend 25m and I 25f are in a relationship for almost 2 years. I recently came across photos of my boyfriend’s past relationship on his phone. They were together for about a year and broke up two years ago. From what he’s told me, he did love her, but they ended things because she found someone else.

I asked him about the pictures, and he said he’s “not ready to let go.” I then asked if he’s moved on, and he said yes. I didn’t push further and just left it there.

I’m not someone who invades his privacy, I just happened to see those photos.

So I’m a bit confused and wanted to ask, can someone genuinely move on from an ex but still not be ready to let go of the memories? Or does holding onto that mean they haven’t fully moved on?
