WIBTA if I invited my grandma’s estranged sister to my wedding?
hey y’all, just wanted to preface this and say this will be a pretty short post and i most likely wont go into too much detail about myself or the wedding, this is mostly just to get my question answered and get some opinions on it!
so i’m and sophomore in college about to start my junior year and my fiance and i are getting married before i graduate since he is in the military and iykyk how that is. as we’re planning, i’m stressing out about the guest list…
my maternal grandma, we’ll call her J, is a huge member of the community and is known by almost everyone (there is literally a street in our town named after her family, which she lives on). she’s had quite a messy life that honestly, i’ve been quite fascinated with my whole life. after she had my mom, she cheated on my grandpa and got married 3 more times before she settled down with my step-grandpa, B. even though B is not related to me by blood, i still refer to him as my grandpa as he’s been in my life for it’s entirety and blood is not what determines family.
my grandma’s sister, we’ll call her V, is J & B’s neighbor. but they haven’t spoken in almost 7 years. you’re probably thinking… ‘wow it must be hard to avoid your neighbor especially since it’s your sister and y’all are definitely invited to all of the same family events’ right? well apparently it’s not that hard for J. i honestly can’t tell you the last time i’ve seen them in the same room.
this started when my great-grandfather passed in 2019 and you can probably guess what caused the estrangement… if you guessed the will, YOU ARE CORRECT! basically, J was the daughter that had the drama filled life constantly needing to come home and constantly needed money, while V moved out and never once had to move back in and never needed financial assistance. but after my great-grandfather passed, and J saw that everything in his will went to V and her husband, C, J & B were infuriated and convinced that V & C forged the will to get everything. they even tried to have the will contested and take them to court over it.
now, J is a drama GOD, queen does not even describe her. all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins avoid her at ALL costs unless we want something from her, it’s sh**ty ik, but it’s just not worth getting into an argument with her or she’ll blast you all over her facebook.
is it worth starting an argument with her over inviting my great-aunt, who i might add, is one of the nicest people i have EVER met or do you think she’d understand? i genuinely would love to have her there but i’m not even sure if i invited her if she would come, as she hates starting drama. or WIBTA if i invited both of them to my wedding?
