How does Absolute Flash tie into the whole "Absolute" thing?

Discussion

I've only recently started gettin into comics; a friend said the AU is a great place 2 start bc it's a more or less fresh start and since it's pretty new it's also pretty easy to catch up on.

So far I've read Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Flash (or rather the absolute versions of them) and the one thing I don't understand is how absolute flash fits into the universe.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the story but it feels like a regular ass comic about a kid getting speed powers. Wonder Woman was raised in literal hell, Superman witnessed his home planet dying firsthand (as a fully conscious teen, not a baby) and Batmans friends got mutilated by Bane as a means of torturing him.

I understand mental health is a very serious issue but I don't see what makes absolute flash so much darker than the regular version.
Is this just bc i'm not as familiar with the original flash material or is this something other people also experience?
