I feel like I dont know a lot of words that I should know?

Im aybe I naive or something theres a lot of words that I never heard of that I feel like I should already know. For example a customer asked me where the shingles were and honestly, I have never even heard of that word before till then. Same could said for words like mulch or sheet rock for example too, i just never heard of these words before. Are these suppose to be basic words that Im supposed to know already like words like grass or trees.
