A Single Change, A Huge Improvement

Gothic Remake

A few years ago, I attempted to play Gothic. I couldn’t do the controls, and it struggled to run consistently on my (then) modern PC. I decided to try Elex, and fell in love. Starting off as a peon who worked his ass off to become slaughter incarnate gave me the same feeling that put Kingdom Come on my all time favorites lists.

Gothic Remake is giving me those same vibes, and I’m so thankful for this developer. Moving to controller from KB&M helped open up combat for me. I’m now level 12, 29 hours in, chapter 2, and on my way to juice some heads for ichor.

One change I think would be an incredible improvement would be to add the ability to add notes/text to the map. It wouldn’t break immersion, and it would help organize the map in a way that supports the open world concept, and help players prioritize parts of their unique journey. I don’t love the lock-picking but feel like that’s an important part of it. If lock-picking isn’t for you, then don’t be a thief. Not everyone was built for a life in the shadows.

Honestly that’s the only minor change I could see make a huge difference and not fundamentally break what makes the game so special. I know I have a long road ahead of me, but I can’t wait to tackle my next adventure.
