Is this the proper way to expose the root flare on this young peach tree?

I just picked this peach tree up from the nursery, and it was buried super deep in the pot. When I dig down to the root flare, I noticed that there was also this thick root growing straight up. Is there a proper way to deal with the root? Did remove too much soil?
