Please tell me if I did this right

I got an orchid earlier this year at Target. She was beautiful and kept her blooms until last week. Once her blooms fell off, I took her out, got rid of the substrate she was in, trimmed off any roots that were dead, put her in orchid bark, and back in her same container (she seemed to fit fine in it, and I've read it's not good to change the size too much, but I'm not sure if that's true). Once back in her container, I trimmed the stem back to the first node after where the last bloom was. Of course, I can't change what's already been done, but any advice for the future? Hopefully, I didn't screw up too badly.🤞🏼
