Pronunciation of "vs."

Do younger generations pronounce "vs." differently than our generation? I was just listening to a podcast with millennial hosts and they kept pronouncing it as "verse". My teenage kids say "verse" as well. I have always pronounced this as "verses." As always, I believe I am correct. 😄 Was there some shift at some point with this abbreviation? I really don't care for it. What is the correct pronunciation?

PS- my original flair was "Question for Gen X", but after writing this, I had to change it LOL.
