Mid-Year Career Change - Need Advice!

Work Advice

Hi! I'm 45, divorced, live alone with dog and have a great boyfriend. I've worked in the same job for 10 years and have been feeling undervalued and stagnant. I do love many of my colleagues and my pay and benefits are great. I have commuted 45 min to 1 hour each way for 10 years!!! It causes me physical, mental, and emotional stress. I have stayed because of the financial security and the people. I do NOT want to move closer to my area of work. I do find purpose in my role and it changes year to year with new challenges both good and bad.

Here's the decision: Just a few days ago I was offered a job that is 90% WFH. It would be on a team of lovely people, and a new bigger challenge, but of course much more removed from in-person and social connection. I'm a bit introverted, but like all of us, need in person social contact! I've wanted a remote job for a long time. I crave getting back to better physical shape and a slower pace of mornings, I do love being at home. Boo: The new job offer is about 9k less in year 1 (even after considering saving gas). Year 2, it would bounce back to being slightly more than I make now. I'm about 13-14 years away from retirement. This new job does not offer a monthly match. That is one giant deciding point. I'd be losing out on about 90k after 14 years (with compound interest) in 'free money' if I leave. Yes, I can still squirrel it away myself, but with a much, much tighter budget.

Being a single gal, mid-career, post-divorce I've worked my tail off and I cannot go backwards financially, but wfh would give me some real life freedoms I've been missing so much. It would also let me be more available to take care of aging parents (I'm an only child).

Take the new job and run knowing it's a financial hit? Or, stay where I'm at with nasty commute that's negatively affecting me in many ways. My current employer will not budge on offering any wfh.

I would love advice from women out there! This seems so hard! I've crunched the numbers, re-evaluated my life values, all the things...thanks in advance :)

title update: I meant mid-career change not mid year career change! (same industry, but very different role)
