My open letter to the old school RuneScape community

To everyone in the Old School RuneScape community,

I’ve been playing this game for a very long time, and lately I’ve felt like saying something that’s been on my mind.

I know botting has always been around. I know some people will always look for shortcuts. Same goes for AI clients and anything else that plays the game for you. But I think we’re losing sight of what made this game special in the first place.
Nobody remembers the guy who botted 10 accounts to 99 Fishing.

Nobody remembers the account that used auto scripts to max. What people remember is the grind. Big PK’s, The painful levels. Losing your bank, The stupid mistakes. The first Fire Cape. The first big drop. The nights spent with friends doing absolutely nothing productive while standing at the Grand Exchange talking nonsense and reminiscing.
Those moments matter because they were earned.

Every time someone lets a bot play for them, they’re basically skipping the whole reason we’re here. The levels aren’t the game. The collection log isn’t the game. The bank value isn’t the game.
The journey from scratch keeps us coming back looking for what was

I understand the temptation. Some grinds are brutal. Some skills are boring. Sometimes you stare at the screen and wonder why you’re clicking the same rock for the thousandth time and just say screw it and do something else
But that’s RuneScape.

We’ve all suffered through it together.
When you finally hit a goal after putting the time in yourself, nobody can take that away from you except you. Not because it’s valuable in gold, but because you know what it took to get there.

AI clients worry me for the same reason. The more decisions the game makes for you, the less you’re actually playing. At some point your character is having an adventure while you’re just watching it happen and the PKing scene is just gonna be untouchable NPC fights

I miss 2007 when everyone was a noob and nobody took efficiency and account achievements so serious, that’s kind of sad. But I feel the game is far from dead in this regard

Old School RuneScape survived because people loved the game enough to keep it alive. Real players. Real grinds. Real achievements.
I hope we don’t lose that.

So if you’re thinking about botting, AHK scripting, or letting some AI client aimlessly do the work for you, maybe don’t. Take the slower route. Play the game badly. Make mistakes. Waste time. Die somewhere stupid. Laugh at how you miss clicked.

That’s the stuff you’ll actually remember years from now. The game is precious because of this balance.
So before you load up your next script. Just remember that it’s easier to bot, but way better to look back into your own achievements without cheats,
