Does a martini served up mean something different?

I have been bartending for a while and I gotta ask a question I've been afriad to ask...when people order a martini served up does it mean something different?? That's just how its generally made is not?? Stirred or shaken with ice then strained into a chilled martini glass with no ice? Am I missing something or do that many people just not know how to order a martini?
