Installing a second sump pump/pit?

We recently had a sustained period of HEAVY rain and our finished basement flooded. The sump pump ran throughout the incident, it was just overwhelmed by the volume of water. A contractor suggested that we install a second sump pump and pit which would (hopefully) prevent this sort of thing in the future. I am wondering what people think about this and where I should locate the second pit. The contractor had suggested a closet in the back bedroom but that closet is not wired and I worry the noise of the pump would make it impossible to sleep in the bedroom. I am thinking about putting it in a closet across the hall from the other pump which is in the utility room. Our house is long and narrow so both of these pumps would be in the middle of the house.

Do people have thoughts on second pits/pumps in general and that location is particular?
