The meat LAVKA. Entry №1
I got accepted! Can you believe it?! I’m a serious person, a scientist in the making, but right now I just can't contain my joy.
I should probably record this for posterity. I am Viktor Ventsev Aleksandrovich, still a student for now, but officially a junior employee at L.A.V.K.A. (Laboratory of Anomalous Virology and Cellular Adaptation). I’m 24 years old. And honestly, I’m a bit sick. None of the admissions committee members should find out about this, otherwise I'll be kicked out of here in a heartbeat, and I have no intention of losing a job like this.
The complex is massive. They made us sign so many non-disclosure agreements that it feels creepy to even type these lines into my phone. If Security finds out about my diary, I'm done for.
Everything here is strictly compartmentalized. Administration, accounting, and residential blocks are located at the top, from the 3rd to the -3rd floor. We are completely forbidden from leaving the facility, so we live right here. There's our own cafeteria and a gym.
My workstation is Level L ("Localization"), which spans from the -4th to the -6th floors. That's where the real interest begins: virus testing and subject experiments. We've already been issued hazmat suits.
Below that is Level K... They didn't tell us anything about it; instead, they say it's on a need-to-know basis, and I don't need to know. Maybe I'll find out later. But at the very bottom, on Level V ("Vrakovka" / "The Cull"), for some reason, the entire laboratory special forces unit is stationed. It's very strange that they keep the security force that deep down instead of at the checkpoint above. What are they guarding down there?
Anyway, it doesn't matter. I'm just so glad I'll be able to help humanity get through this difficult time! First shift tomorrow.
