Help with my teen son

My son is 14 and has a cell phone his father bought him (I am a single mother). It’s connected to his iPad and I periodically check his cell phone to make sure his texts or apps are appropriate. I recently found messages between him and his girlfriend which were a little inappropriate but I understand that hormones are raging now. I always talk to him about healthy relationships and respect and consent. Should I bring up the messages I found and revisit our talks? Should he have more privacy because he is 14? How do other parents address this with their teen boys?
