Long-time lurker, first-time poster.

I finally understand the Vision Pro.

The closest comparison I can make is buying the first iPhone. Not because it’s perfect, but because people keep judging it against products that already exist. It’s not a MacBook. It’s not an iPad. It’s not a gaming headset. It’s its own thing, and I think that’s why so many people miss the point.

I picked up a pristine M2 Vision Pro on eBay for $1,800 and expected an interesting piece of hardware. What I didn’t expect was to watch a spatial film and immediately feel that rare sensation that I’ve only experienced a handful of times in my career: the feeling that you’re looking at where media is headed next.

What surprised me most is how much thought went into the physical object itself. The photos and YouTube videos don’t really capture it. The glass, the materials, the way you pick it up with one hand and bring it to your face—it feels less like putting on a headset and more like interacting with something from a future Apple has already figured out.

I even understand the Solo Knit Band now. I get why people prefer the Dual Loop, but after spending time with it, I can see exactly what the designers were chasing.

The other thing this device immediately did was get my brain racing. The first thing I want to prototype is a Vision Pro experience that recognizes when you’re holding an iPhone or wearing an Apple Watch and reconstructs that information spatially around you. Not a giant floating screen—a living holographic extension of the device itself. A movie becomes an environment. Maps become a model sitting on your coffee table. Health data becomes something you can walk around and inspect. The fact that Vision Pro can already see my hands, my phone, and my watch makes me feel like we’re only a few software updates away from something much bigger.

The Vision Pro isn’t for everyone, and I don’t think Apple expected it to be. But if you’re the kind of person who gets excited about where media, technology, and storytelling are headed, this thing is legit as fuck.

Anyway, here are some photos of me opening my portal.
