Can someone help me understand the claim of Book of Mormon being demonic?
Help me out here and please be patient with me.
In recent debates if the Book of Mormon is demonic, there seems to be a really interesting argument.
It’s been conceded in these debates that Joseph smith did not write the book. And that there is no conspiracy as to its writing.
Instead it heads directly to that it’s inspired by the devil. That it is demonic.
The arguments seems to only be two fold.
1.) Jospeh smith did bad things, or was involved in folk Christianity, and that’s demonic. Thus he was inspired by a demon to write it.
2.) yes, the text teaches us to follow and believe in Jesus as God, the son of God, the eternal God, and savior and redeemer of the world, (Ie the gospel, and encouraging and teaching people to follow it). And yes it quotes some biblical passages, but because this “teaches/encurages people to not believe in orthodoxy” that means that it’s satanic. Satan will tell 99.99% truth and teaching in order to get people to have a wrong perspective.
I don’t see how either of these are really evidence for the claim of demonic origin.
1.) just assumes prophetic infallibility. Nevermind Moses or Paul or David doing bad things.
2.) just presupposes that the current orthodoxy is correct and infallible.
Neither of these claims seem to support or be evidence of demonic inspiration.
Can someone help explain this to me in a logical way? I’m not advocating for it being true or anything, but just trying to understand the logic of these arguments here.
