Airbnb hosts living on property - is it valid to be annoyed at this?

I decided to book a cottage (cabin / summer home) this weekend for just my dog and I. At home I have a lot of nosey neighbours and I just wanted to feel like I could tan and laze around without seeing anyone.

I went through a ton of listings when I found a cottage that looked really private, no neighbouring units were in any of the pictures, it was listed as the entire unit, lockbox check in, no mention of the hosts in any of the reviews. Figured I was good. It was pretty pricey as well.

I checked in yesterday and there’s a cottage on the left of me, but a really thick tree line so I can’t see them at all. Perfect. Then there’s a cottage really close by on the right, with a thin tree line in between. The cottage is really visible so I’m kind of annoyed but whatever.

The hosts messages me in the app saying they left extra towels, oh and also they live in the cabin right beside if I need anything 😩. From the main deck and dock on the water they can see me perfectly. I can see them sitting on their balcony. They waved at me. I can hear them. This is the opposite of what I want.

I was telling myself I was being silly and it’s a separate cottage, I can still do what I want etc. But then today starting at 9:30am they’ve been working on the shared lawn and shoreline right next to me basically all day. They have a tractor going, they’re moving all this material up and down. Right now they’re setting up chairs on the shoreline while I awkwardly sit on the dock beside.

I can’t tell if I’m being an insecure baby or if it’s legitimately annoying/deceiving they didn’t mention living here and being around all day. Also frankly I smoke weed (legal in Canada) and was really excited to just smoke in peace and stare at the water. I know I should have asked the host if there’s anyone else on the property before booking but this has never happened to me before.
