Would you buy 2x CMP 100-210 for AI if you already had a P100, another P100 planned, and an M40?
I am building a Dell Precision 7820 AI workstation/homelab and would like some advice before buying 2x NVIDIA CMP 100-210 cards.
Current hardware:
Dell Precision 7820
112GB ECC RAM
950W PSU (looking for the 1400W version)
NVIDIA Tesla P100 16GB (just arrived)
Planning to buy a second Tesla P100 16GB
NVIDIA Tesla M40 24GB (already purchased)
NVIDIA P2200 for display/output
AMD WX2100 for additional displays
Dell MegaRAID 9440-8i
2x Dell Seagate ES.3 4TB SAS drives
Additional SAS storage planned
NVMe SSD upgrade planned (1TB or 2TB)
Ubuntu/Linux will be the primary OS
Primary workloads:
Local LLMs
RAG systems
Automotive knowledge base
Embeddings
OCR
Multi-agent automation
Marketing automation
Stable Diffusion
Image generation
Some video generation
I recently found 2x NVIDIA CMP 100-210 16GB HBM2 cards for about $250 total.
My concern is that I have read conflicting information regarding these cards:
PCIe lane limitations (x1 vs x16)
Firmware modifications
CUDA compatibility
Long-term support
Real-world AI performance
Considering I already have:
P100 16GB
Second P100 planned
M40 24GB
Would you buy the 2x CMP 100-210, or would you invest that money elsewhere (NVMe, storage, PSU upgrade, etc.)?
If anyone has hands-on experience running CMP 100-210 cards for AI workloads (PyTorch, Ollama, vLLM, Stable Diffusion, LLM inference), I would really appreciate your feedback.
Thanks!
