Why Leadership Isn't About Being Indispensable

Many leaders are rewarded for being the person everyone depends on.

They solve problems.
They make decisions.
They keep everything moving.

It feels valuable.

But over time, indispensability can become a trap.

If everything depends on one person:

  • Growth slows.
  • Teams hesitate.
  • Innovation decreases.
  • Burnout increases.

Strong leadership is not measured by how much people need you, but rather by how many capable people become leaders because of your leadership.

What would change if your goal was to create more independence rather than more dependence?
