Is Skullsquirm dead with Mortarions Hammer?

Because it’s now -1 in melee only, and being able to choose affliction targets, I live running vehicles and using the rule on big gun platforms. It’s saved me a lot, it would just be -1 toughness which by itself isn’t that great against bigger targets. Wouldn’t that make it dead now in that detachment?
