Spontaneous labour or induction?
Hi everyone,
I am a FTM currently 41 weeks pregnant today in MGP. I’ve had a really smooth pregnancy with a little pelvic pain in the evenings this last week. Medically, all is fine. Mentally, also fine for now but walking a tightrope some days.
Currently facing the dilemma of whether to induce baby or wait for spontaneous labour.
The hospital policy is to induce by 41+6 with twice weekly ultrasounds to review placental sufficiency. My midwife is also expecting so if it’s important to have her for labour, I would need to induce in the next 2 days. I had a stretch & sweep done yesterday but only minimal cramps and spotting followed. I was 1-2cm dilated at the appointment.
My questions are:
- for those who did NOT have an allocated midwife and went into labour, how were your experiences?
- those who have been in MGP, how much of a difference did it make to have your midwife during labour?
- is it worth another sweep before the midwife heads on leave and await spontaneous labour for a few more days given my current position, or is the benefit negligible at this point and would be worth inducing given only a few days different?
Thank you to all who have taken the time to read and especially those who respond!
