Alternative ending to the game

Discussion

What if, instead of immediately fighting Gwyn at the end of the game, we were given the option to speak with him first?

I imagine him being somewhat similar to Isshin from Sekiro in his old age, just sitting and quietly reflecting on his condition. Through a dialogue with him, we could learn more about the world of Dark Souls, the fading Age of Fire, and Gwyn himself, about the reasons behind his sacrifice and what the Age of Fire means to him.

After the conversation, Gwyn could present us with the final choice: link the First Flame or walk away from it.

If we choose to link the flame, Gwyn would simply step aside, finally accepting that his time has come to an end and giving up his post, finally being able to rest in peace after a millennium of suffering.

On the other hand, if we choose not to link the flame and instead embrace the Age of Dark, Gwyn would have no choice but to oppose us. Nothing personal just keeping up his duty.

What do you think? Or do you prefer Gwyn remaining a silent, tragic figure? There's a charm in it too I guess, sort of mystical ending, a lot of things up to interpretation like is he or is he not insane and etc. But I honestly wanted to chat with him a bit to learn more about his character.
