How do I get better as survivor

I have been playing dead by daylight quite a bit recently and mostly only play killer but when my friend is on I play survivor. Sometimes we do pretty well I guess but I always end up dying first out of anybody and have to wait 10 minutes on my phone or something for the match to end. I'm sure part of it is a skill issue but I also face a lot of tunneling and camping. This is mainly why I play killer so I can enjoy the game and if you guys have any tips or perks I should be using please let me know.
