Why are some moms so viscerally opposed to their child wearing a helmet?

Vent

I have a family member whose kids all had flat head issues, and she absolutely refused to put a helmet on them. Now a few years later, they all still have flat heads and apparently will be that way for the rest of their lives, all because she (husband didn't care) didn't want them to wear a helmet. I've been searching here on reddit to see what other parents and I'm seeing that it's particularly moms who are so forcefully against the helmets, mostly for vanity reasons or stubbornness. One mom said "I don't want my child in a helmet. I just don't"...... Really? You'd rather your child have a weird misshaped head for the rest of their lives??

Frankly, it feels incredibly ignorant and immature to be so resistant to a helmet just because you don't like how it looks, or you feel like people will judge your baby, or you don't like how it feels to cuddle, etc. I have not found a single person who has stated any legitimate health concern or development issue that would provide a justifiable reason for not putting their child in a helmet. What is going on with this generation of moms?!
