Jaw pain after short use of clear aligners — I’m worried Botox won’t work
Hi everyone,
I’m dealing with something that has been really affecting me and I honestly don’t know what to do anymore.
I started using clear dental aligners, but after just 4 days I had to stop because they triggered severe pain in my jaw muscles, especially the masseters. Since then, the pain has persisted without real improvement.
Just to clarify, I’ve never had issues with teeth clenching, bruxism, or TMJ problems before this.
Over the past month, I’ve tried several treatments:
TMJ physiotherapy
muscle relaxants
anti-inflammatories and painkillers
relaxation/spa-type approaches
None of them have really helped.
Eventually, under medical advice, I decided to get Botox injections in the masseter muscles. I received 25 units per side. It’s been exactly 2 days since the injections, so I know it’s still very early, but I’m already anxious because I don’t feel any improvement yet and I’m worried it might not work.
I’m stressed because this all started suddenly after just a few days of aligners and hasn’t improved since, despite trying multiple approaches.
Has anyone experienced something similar? How long did it take for Botox to start working for you, if it did? Or did you find any other solutions?
I just want to go back to how I was before the aligners — with relaxed masseter muscles and no pain.
Thanks a lot in advance
