What is going on with this campaign difficulty?

I'm playing the easy difficulty, because I'm a 30 y/o dad who wants to make my way through this story. But what in the fuck is this "easy" mode? I have failed a good 5 times in a row on this fucking Osgiliath mission, not to mention the times it took me to win the Bree mission and even the goddamn Barrows.

Easy is absolutely not easy. Why am I forced to grind out this campaign, and then when I fail a mission I have to wait through un-skippable cutscenes before I get my chance.

Like holy shit I just want to play the campaign and have fun, is there an easier mode than "easy" mode for the guy who doesn't want to spend hours playing over the same levels?
