Setting Up Global Terminal Tools on Kindle

Source Package: https://storage.gra.cloud.ovh.net/v1/AUTH_2ac4bfee353948ec8ea7fd1710574097/mr-public/Touch/kindle-usbnet-0.22.N-r19297.tar.xz

Step 1: Folder Structure on the Kindle Partition

When mounted on your Linux PC, your custom binaries and libraries must be organized exactly like this on the user partition (/run/media/<USER>/Kindle/):

/run/media/<USER>/Kindle/
└── terminal_tools/
    └── bin/
        ├── nano
        ├── ssh
        └── lib/
            └── (all your required system .so library files)

Step 2: Revert menu.json to Stock

Ensure that /run/media/<USER>/Kindle/extensions/kterm/menu.json is clean and does not contain any broken or stuck -E arguments. It should look exactly like this:

{
    "items": [
        {
            "name": "kterm",
            "priority": 1,
            "action": "bin/kterm.sh"
        }
    ]
}

Step 3: Inject Paths into the Launcher Script

Open /run/media/<USER>/Kindle/extensions/kterm/bin/kterm.sh in a text editor on your Linux PC and ensure the top of the file contains the global environment variables right under the shebang line:

#!/bin/sh
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/mnt/us/terminal_tools/bin/lib"
export PATH="$PATH:/mnt/us/terminal_tools/bin"

Step 4: Finalize and Apply

  1. Safely eject the Kindle from your Linux PC.
  2. Unplug the USB cable.
  3. Restart the Kindle UI or reboot the device so KUAL flushes its cache and reloads the execution scripts.
  4. Launch KTerm.
