Sunday 6/14 Ops Alert: DFW & CLT ground stops possible this afternoon

Trip Reports & Insights

tl;dr: Thunderstorms across the Southeast, Texas, and Northeast are setting up a messy afternoon. Both major AA hubs — DFW and CLT — are flagged for possible ground stops starting mid-day. The Northeast corridor is expected to be even worse, rated probable for multiple airports. FIFA World Cup traffic is making things worse at DFW and Houston. If you’re flying AA today, especially anything connecting through DFW, have a backup plan.

🔴 DFW — HIGH RISK

If your flight to DFW is scheduled to depart after 10:00 AM CDT, expect delays.

Inbound flights from across the country are already being rerouted around Texas weather as of this morning, so delays may start showing up even earlier than that.

On top of the thunderstorms, FIFA World Cup traffic is adding extra pressure to the Dallas area today. As AA’s biggest hub, delays here will ripple hard across the entire network — if you have a connection through DFW today, watch it closely.

🟠 CLT — MODERATE-HIGH RISK

If your flight to CLT is scheduled to depart after 1:00 PM EDT, expect delays.

Check the AA app — if there’s a travel waiver active for your city pair, you can rebook for free
